North Star Counseling

Frequently Asked Questions
When are you available?
Our counselors work at different times, ranging from 9:00 am to 10:00 pm. The times listed on the booking page are from 9:10 am to 1:40 pm. If you do not see a time that works for you on the booking page, please email us at ikeda.ariana@northstarjp.org and we'll see what we can do.
Do you see clients outside of Japan?
We see clients from all over the world via Zoom. That said, we are licensed in Japan and abide by Japanese law in regards to counseling services.
Do you accept insurance?
Unfortunately, Japanese insurance does not cover counseling, therapy, or coaching, and we cannot accept insurance from overseas. We do have sliding scale options for low income individuals and families.
How often do you recommend having counseling sessions?
This depends entirely on the you and your goals, however we recommend a minimum of once every two weeks so as not to hinder the process of therapy.
How much reach does my counselor have?
We are able to work with your school, place of employment, and hospitals to ensure the most effective outcome possible in your therapy journey. A counselor does not have the ability to speak for a client or involuntarily hospitalize a client, however we do have the ability to work with police and hospitals who can admit a client in the event of a crisis. If you or someone you know is having a mental health emergency, please call #9110 from within Japan for emergency assistance, and then reach out to us for next steps or further assistance.
